Key West

Key West, Florida is a place that's both charming and full of life. Known for its beautiful beaches, world-renowned sunsets, and lively atmosphere, this tropical paradise is the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape their daily routine and enjoy some sunshine. Below I'll share with you my thoughts and recommendations for the best things to do in Key West.

Let's begin by talking about the beaches. There are so many beautiful beaches to choose from, each with their own unique charm. My personal favorite is South Beach, which is located at the southernmost point of the island. The water is crystal clear, the sand is soft, and there's always a lively atmosphere with music playing and people soaking up the sun.

Next up, we have the famous Key West sunsets. There's nothing quite like watching the sun dip below the horizon with a cold drink in hand. The best place to watch the sunset is at Mallory Square, where you'll find street performers, food vendors, and plenty of people gathered to watch the show.

For those looking to explore the island's history and culture, a visit to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is a must. This beautiful property was once the home of the famous author, and now serves as a museum dedicated to his life and work. You'll also get to meet the six-toed cats that roam the property, which were once owned by Hemingway himself.

If you're looking for something a little more adventurous, a snorkeling tour of the nearby coral reefs is a must-do. The waters surrounding Key West are teeming with marine life, and you'll have the opportunity to swim with tropical fish, sea turtles, and even the occasional dolphin.

And of course, we can't talk about Key West without mentioning the nightlife. The island is home to a wide variety of bars, clubs, and live music venues, catering to every taste and preference. Duval Street is the main hub of nightlife, with numerous bars and clubs lining the street, but there are also plenty of other options scattered throughout the island.

I'm also fond of the famous Key Lime Pie that you'll find throughout the Keys. It's at its most authentic-self here. Don't leave without grabbing a slice! You can even find a gluten-free version at Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe.

Another must is a photo at the U.S. Southernmost Point buoy. If you have a little more time left in your day, or a second day, visit the Truman Little White House and the Key West Lighthouse.

If you care to extend your visit to another area of The Keys, I suggest a drive up US 1 to Marathon. I highly recommend spending some time around the grounds of The Historic Crane House. It is located near the Florida Keys / Marathon International Airport. "Absolutely spectacular" is all I can say about the view from the end of the trail to The Point!
