Bratislava, Slovakia

Start your day in Bratislava by wandering towards the charming Old Town. On your way visit St. Martin's Cathedral. This Gothic cathedral was the coronation church for the Kingdom of Hungary. The interior is adorned with stunning altars, sculptures, and the crown of St. Stephen.

As you reach the Old Town, Michael's Gate and the Main Square are must-sees.

The only preserved gate from the medieval fortifications, Michael's Gate offers a glimpse into Bratislava's past. Climb to the top for a great view of the Old Town.

If you're a fan of quirky art, find the Čumil statue, also known as the Man at Work. This iconic bronze statue of a man peeking out of a manhole is a beloved and somewhat humorous symbol of Bratislava.

You'll also see a statue in the Main Square of Napoleon. It commemorates the period when Bratislava (then Pressburg) was the site of the Treaty of Pressburg, signed on December 26, 1805. Also worth a visit is Primate's Palace - a beautiful rococo palace that witnessed the signing of the Treaty. The Hall of Mirrors is particularly noteworthy.

Grab lunch at a traditional Slovak restaurant. Bryndzové halušky (dumplings with sheep cheese) is a local favorite.

After lunch, stroll along the Danube River and cross the UFO Bridge for a unique perspective of the city.

Take some time in the afternoon to visit the Blue Church, known for its striking color and art-nouveau architecture.

And be sure to leave enough time to explore Bratislava Castle to soak in both history and breathtaking views. Dominating the city's skyline, the castle has a history dating back to the 9th century. It has served various purposes, from a fortress to a royal residence.

If you have an opportunity, strike up a conversation with a local. They have fascinating stories to tell about their lives under various rulers over the last 75 years. Even locals in their 30s have experienced significant changes.

Wrap up your day with dinner at one of the riverside restaurants. You'll have a lovely view of the castle illuminated at night. If time allows, experience the city's nightlife; Bratislava has a vibrant scene, especially in the Old Town.
