Capri
Spending a day in Capri is a delightful experience filled with stunning views, delicious food, and cultural exploration. We visited on a cruise ship stop from Naples and enjoyed the island so much we are planning another visit so we can stay longer. Here’s our itinerary to help you make the most of your time on this beautiful Italian island:
Morning
Start your day like we did. Arrive at Capri's main port, Marina Grande, either by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast, and then grab breakfast at a seaside cafe. Start your day with a classic Italian breakfast (cappuccino and cornetto) at one of the cafes near the marina, enjoying the view of the harbor.
Take the chairlift from Anacapri to the summit of Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island. Enjoy panoramic views of the entire island, the Bay of Naples, and the Amalfi Coast.
Stroll through the charming streets of Anacapri. Visit Villa San Michele, a beautiful historic house with splendid gardens and stunning views over the island.
Lunch
Choose a local trattoria in Anacapri or Capri town to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Try regional specialties such as ravioli capresi, seafood pasta, or a fresh Caprese salad, paired with a glass of local wine.
Afternoon
Wander through the bustling streets of Capri town. Visit Piazza Umberto I (La Piazzetta), the heart of the town, often called "the world's living room."
Browse the high-end boutiques and local artisan shops. Look for handmade sandals, limoncello, and other unique souvenirs.
Visit the beautiful terraced Gardens of Augustus for a peaceful stroll and stunning views of the Faraglioni rock formations and the Marina Piccola.
If you can, walk down the historic Via Krupp, a winding path that descends from the gardens to the sea. Be sure to check on the path in advance as it’s sometimes closed due to rockfall.
Dinner
End your day with a delicious dinner at one of Capri’s renowned restaurants. For a special experience, choose a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the sea or the island’s scenic landscape. Enjoy fresh seafood, handmade pasta, and local wines.
A few tips to make your visit more enjoyable, especially if you will be visiting in the Summer.
Wear comfortable shoes as Capri has many steep and cobblestone streets.
Book any tours or reservations in advance, especially during peak tourist season.
Carry water, sunscreen, and a hat, as you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors.
We didn't see and do everything there is to do in Capri during our day there so if you have more time during your visit, you may want to check out the following:
Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra): Head to the Blue Grotto early to avoid the crowds. Take a boat from Marina Grande or a bus to Anacapri and then a smaller boat to enter the grotto. Inside, marvel at the iridescent blue water, illuminated by sunlight filtering through an underwater cave.
Boat Tour Around the Island: Take a boat tour around the island to see the famous Faraglioni rocks up close. Many tours also include a stop for swimming in the clear, blue waters.
Relax at Marina Piccola: Alternatively, head to Marina Piccola, a picturesque bay on the southern side of the island. Relax on the beach or swim in the inviting waters.
Punta Carena Lighthouse: Make your way to Punta Carena for a spectacular sunset. The lighthouse area offers one of the best vantage points to watch the sun dip into the Tyrrhenian Sea.
We loved Capri for its blend of iconic sights, local culture, and leisurely-pace. We think you can have a memorable day in Capri, too, with just a little planning. Feel free to contact me if you'd like my assistance.
